The inspiration for this piece came from the profound beauty of life in a womb – the inception and miraculous creation of God, intertwined with reflections from the book of Exodus chapter 12. This painting became a space to wrestle with the sacred tension between the miracle of life and the call to protect it, the cost of redemption and the mercy that meets it. In the story of exodus, blood mark on the doorpost ensured a sign of mercy amid judgement. That image stayed with me, it echoes the new testament’s portrayal of Jesus, the Lamb of God who becomes the threshold between death and deliverance for the world. For me, the cross is where the love and the wrath of God meets – not as opposing sides, but as mystery held in divine unity.
